Susan Lambert Obituary

Susan transitioned to her new life on Tuesday, February 14, 2022 at 6:49 p.m. She believed that one's year of birth and death were not as important as the "dash" in between the two, and she lived her "dash" to the fullest. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, Bobbie and Millie Juneau; a loving mother to her three children, Erin Mayeux (Philip) of Granbury, Texas; Brad (Amy) and Dane (Erin) Lambert; a fun Nana to her grandchildren, Brennan and Emma Grace Lambert and Cole Mayeux, a faithful wife to her husband of 54 years, Lionel Lambert, and a loyal and selfless friend to many. Susan was educated by the School Sisters of Notre Dame and worked under the leadership of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Both of these groups of women helped shape the woman Susan became. She attended LSU and taught in Baton Rouge Catholic Schools for 30 years. She had an insatiable thirst for learning and was courageous in her stance against injustices, big or small. Susan was animated, passionate, witty, and never asked anyone to do something that she was not willing to do herself. She was known for her recycling efforts to the point of becoming the family joke. She served on the Parish Council at several local Catholic churches and on the School Board of a local Catholic high school. She could be seen volunteering at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, where she also worked part time for the past eight years, St. Vincent de Paul, The Red Shoes or wherever there was a need. Susan loved watching baseball and spent hundreds of hours supporting her two sons and grandson during their baseball careers. She was a longtime LSU baseball season ticket holder and often said "Baseball at the Box" was her therapy. She loved hearing people's stories and was a student of history and politics. Susan spent her latter years involved with The Red Shoes, growing her own spiritual life while helping to make other women's lives better too. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Red Shoes, 2303 Government Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, on Tuesday, February 22nd from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Avenue, on Wednesday, February 23rd from 9:30 a.m.until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Martin presiding. The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Thomas and the LSU Critical Care Unit staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for their dedication, compassion and wonderful care.

The service was beautiful and thoughtful just like Ms. Susan. My heart felt condolences to the family, Brad, Amy, Emma Grace, Brennan, Erin, Philip, Cole, Dane, Erin (Beadle), Palmer, and of course Lionel (affectionately referred to as LPL). She spoke of you all often and with so much love and affection. I feel like I know you all so well and we´ve barely spoken to each other. She loved everyone and I´ve yet to meet someone who didn´t adore her too. She will truly be missed.

Susan and I taught together for seven years, then retired at the same time, and for two years we just hung out and enjoyed each other´s company. We went to lunch, saw movies and plays, and went shopping. We laughed together and cried together. I´ll never forget how she helped me through my breast cancer. She went to the dr. with me, took me to the "survivor shop", and sat with my family in the waiting room during my surgery. I wish I could have done the same for her. She was a force to be reckoned with, and she stood up for her beliefs and convictions like no one else. That´s someone you really want on your side. Rest In Peace, dear friend, I wish I had gotten to say goodbye. I´ll never forget you.

When I first heard that Susan was in the hospital, my first thought was that Susan will beat this. She is such a strong person. While she was still able to talk on the phone, we had several talks and had made plans for lunch as soon as she was able.
Susan, up in heaven, know that you are loved and missed. We´ll meet again one day.

I met Ms. Susan when we both worked at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and we became friends. I live on a small farm and I would delight Ms. Susan with tales of my animals. She was especially fond of my donkey Jacob who was the recipient of many packages of lemon sandwich cookies, his favorite snack. Ms. Susan always made sure he always had plenty of them. When we would get together, I gave her eggs, deer meat and satsumas and in return she gave me love, friendship and wisdom. She also prayed for my daughter in law during a difficult pregnancy and offered words of encouragement to us. When baby Violet was born, Ms. Susan sent gifts to her. In essence, what I am trying to say is Ms. Susan was a kind, generous, compassionate friend who I will miss so much. I am so sorry for your loss and everyone's loss who was fortunate enough to have known her.
