Sylvia Cantrell Obituary

Sylvia Felts Cantrell

Nashville - Sylvia Felts Cantrell of Nashville, TN, died on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at age 82.

Sylvia was born in Robertson County, TN and was employed part-time by the Junior League of Nashville for 20 years. She loved it and believed in everything it stands for.

She was a member of Crievewood United Methodist Church where she was a primary teacher, Director of Vacation Bible School, Executive Board Member, Vice-Chair of the Pastor Parish Relations committee, and a Communion Steward for many years.

Sylvia was a volunteer for Second Harvest, and a member of Threads of Love, which created hand-made bereavement clothes for children at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. She also knitted hats for children there who had cancer. She remembered the sick and needy by delivering special handmade soups and pies. She was an avid gardener, an enthusiastic exerciser, and loved to play bridge. Sylvia was always ready and willing to help her community become a better place in which to live.

She was much loved by her family, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James "Jim" Malcolm Cantrell. She is survived by two daughters, Julia Elizabeth Cantrell, and Mary Jennifer Lutgens (David); five grandchildren, Allison Anderson (Marty), Lauren Lutgens, Kieran Barrett, Andrew Lutgens, Sullivan Barrett, and one great-grandchild, James Anderson. Also survived by siblings, Dot Hitt, Shirley Felts, and Mike Felts.

In light of the current public health crisis, a private Celebration of Life will be held with the immediate family at a later date. Donations may be made to Crievewood United Methodist Church or the Junior League of Nashville. Condolences may be offered online www.brentwood-roesch-pattonfh.com

While I never met Mrs. Cantrell, she raised an amazing daughter in Julie. I and my family in the Bahamas celebrate her life of service to her community and a legacy of love. May she rest in peace and rise in glory!

My beautiful sister, I will miss you so much. Will miss our calls every week, the laughs we had . The Titans won the day you got your wings. I was going to call you when the game was over but instead I got a call from Jen. I know you are Happy to be with Jim. You can rest assured that your family loved you so much. Bye for now and will meet you another time. Love you !!

I extend my most sincere sympathy to Sylvia's family. She will be sorely missed in our Sunday School class and at our church. What a lady and what an example of discipleship. She was a dear. God bless and keep each of you.
