Sylvia Powell Obituary

Sylvia B. Powell WEST COLUMBIA Funeral service for Sylvia B. Powell, 72, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow in Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery. Chaplain Carroll McGee will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Mrs. Powell was born May 7, 1940, in Sumter, SC, and passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. She was a daughter of Carlette Weatherly Bartlette and the late Arrie Bartlette. Mrs. Powell attended school in Sumter County schools and was a graduate of the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She received her B.S. degree in Nursing from The University of South Carolina. She was employed by S.C. Baptist Hospital and Lexington County Hospital and retired from William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Medical Center in Columbia, SC. She was the co-founder of Powell Electric Company. Mrs. Powell was a member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Sunday School Class "Vessels of Light" at Northside Baptist Church. She was a member of The Magnolia's and Golden Girls and Guys groups. Mrs. Powell is survived by her mother; a son, Ted Powell (Sharon) of Lexington; grandchildren, Daniel and Savannah Powell of Lexington; brother, Jimmy Bartlette of Batesburg; and special friend, Dr. Carl Almond of Columbia. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel "Dan" Theodore Powell, Sr,. and their daughter, Vicki Lynn Powell. Pallbearers will be Jay Alley, Tony Carroll, Todd O'Dell, Brad Lybrand, Joey Lindler, Hal Taylor and John Seal. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Powell Electric. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canoeing for Kids, 114 Riverchase Court, Lexington, SC, 29072 or to Charleston Hope Lodge, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.net
