Thomas Carter Bache, III

LA JOLLA
Age 48 left this world as he slept peacefully in the early morning of March 15, 2021. Born on June 8, 1972, in San Diego, where he spent most of his life. Tom was proud of his decade of service in the Marine Corps, including leading an infantry squad in the invasion and rapid victory in the 2003 Iraq War. He was inducted into the University HS/Cathedral Catholic HS Athletic Hall of Fame. He became a pillar of the San Diego running community as a master-level USTAF official, training partner, mentor, and inspiring competitor (he ran a 2:42 marathon at age 47 and finished high in several mountainous ultra-marathons). He officiated at countless meets at levels from high school to international. He competed for San Diego Track Club (SDTC) and served as an SDTC and USTAF Board Member and Officer.Tom had a gift for making, keeping, and inspiring friends. He organized and led numerous mountain runs and backpacking adventures. His friendly presence enriched countless lives, and he will be greatly missed. Survivors include his parents, Lolitia B. Bache and Thomas Carter Bache, Jr (Ann Kerr) and their son, David; sister, Kristin Markowicz (John) and their children, John, Joseph, James, and Jane; sister, Stephanie Bache (Mark Simon) and their daughter, Marlo. Tom was a kind and gentle person. He loved to talk about running, but never bragged about himself. Even though I was a casual running friend, I will miss him dearly. Marcella Teran

Tom as I knew him, was a gentle and kind person. Loved running for the simple joy of it. He never bragged. I will miss him. Marcella Teran
