Thomas Markham Obituary
January 2, 1939 - December 20, 2021
Columbia, South Carolina - Dr. Thomas "Tom" L. Markham, 82, of Columbia, SC, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021. Born January 2, 1939 to the late Excell Markham Sr. and Leona Patterson Markham, he was the youngest of nine siblings.
Tom graduated from Apex High School in Apex, NC. He received his Bachelor's degree in math and classical music from UNC Chapel Hill and his doctorate degree from Auburn University in 1967. Tom was a professor of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina from 1968 to 1999. He was the undergraduate director of Mathematics at USC from 1996 to 1999.
Surviving are his siblings, Edith Markham, Inez Poe, Zelota McDonald (Ivan), and Dr. R. Wade Markham (Lois); sisters-in-law, Hazel Markham and Esther Markham; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Carolyn Markham, Baswell Markham, James Archie Markham (Marie), and Excell Markham, Jr.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

I knew Tim back in the 70s through friends. He was such a genuine person with a kind and generous nature.
I would run into him occasionally when I visited Columbia. He would always laugh and smile
