Thomas Singleton Obituary

Thomas Poncet Singleton, known affectionately as Tom, passed away in his sleep on June 20, 2024, at his longtime home in Lakeview, at the age of 74. Born on September 9, 1949, in New Orleans, Tom lived a full life characterized by his deep love for history, music, and his family. Tom grew up attending Hynes Elementary School and graduated from Alcee Fortier High School. He furthered his education at Louisiana State University – a school he would enjoy cheering on for decades. Professionally, Tom was respected as a dedicated salesman of men's fine clothing, working at both Brooks Brothers and Perlis, where his charm and expertise left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Beyond his professional life, Tom's heart was at home with his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathy Bruno Singleton. He was a loving father to his cherished daughters, Katie Singleton Sticker (Jimmy) and Kelly Rose Singleton, and a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren Jude, Maggie, and Hank Sticker, who knew him as "Pops." He is also survived by his sister, Janet Singleton Kalnit. Tom was a voracious reader with a particular passion for World War II history. His love for music was evident as he enjoyed playing guitar and was a lifelong fan of The Rolling Stones. Those who had the good fortune of spending time with Tom quickly recognized him to be a man of candid opinion, well-informed taste, and daring humor. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. Tom's family invites you to join them in celebrating his life at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on July 1, from 11:00 to 2:00. His legacy of kindness, intellect, warmth, and wit will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association.

I will truly miss my brother- He was and has always been a bright light.
My brother took after my dad. He was charismatic, popular, and loved music. He always had a way with people.
A memory that stands out for me is when my friends would come over, I didn´t know if they wanted to hang with me or see him. I would always hear "your brother is so cute". Many times he would put the top down in his car and we would all pile in.
He was a blessing to the family and myself.
I love you brother, rest in peace.
Love always,
Your sister Janet.

Dear Kathy, Kelly, Katie and Jimmy,
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tom , a remarkable man whose love for life was as immense as his knowledge of World War II history. His passion for the Rolling Stones was infectious, and his guitar melodies are forever etched in our memories. Tom´s gentle nature and the joy he found in his pet dogs brought light into the lives of everyone around him.
As we remember Tom, we are reminded of the legacy he leaves behind-a legacy of kindness, enthusiasm, and an unquenchable zest for his interests. At 74, he lived a life full of moments that resonated with the chords of love and the rhythm of an era that he cherished.
May the memories of Tom´s remarkable journey bring you comfort during this time. His was a life well-lived, and well-loved, and his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
With heartfelt condolences,

Kenny and Patty
