Thomas Thompson Obituary

Thomas James (Tom) Thompson

West Des Moines

After touching the lives of many around him, Tom left this world peacefully on July 4, 2013. A Celebration of Tom's life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lutheran Church of Hope with a private burial at Glendale Cemetery.

Born July 26, 1960 to Thomas and Rose Thompson, Tom grew up in Des Moines, IA. He attended Christ the King School and graduated from Dowling High School in 1979. He was a part of the 1979 Dowling boys' basketball team that won the state championship. Tom graduated from the University of Iowa in 1984 and became a lifelong Hawkeye fan.

Tom followed his passion for sales and became an amazing salesman, starting his own sales agency in 1993. He loved traveling his territory, making sales, and building great relationships with his customers and friends.

Tom married the love of his life, Lesly, in October 1988. Tom and Lesly were blessed with four beautiful daughters: Allison, Tara, Brenna, and Tessa. He loved taking care of his "girls!" which was only magnified by the arrival of his beautiful granddaughter, Olivia, one year ago.

Tom was so passionate about life and his faith. His positive outlook was an inspiration to all who knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Rose; his sisters, Mary Thompson and Tammy (Robert) Andrada; wife, Lesly; daughters, Allison, Tara, Brenna, and Tessa; granddaughter, Olivia; son-in-law, Rafael Luna; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, and grandson, Rafael Luna III.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Christ the King Catholic Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Cancer Hospital.

We want to thank all family and friends for the loving support we have been given throughout this very tough road. Tom was a great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is one of a kind and can never be replaced in our hearts. Thankfully we get to hold onto the promise that "In Christ there are no goodbyes"!

Online condolences will be welcomed at www.mclarensresthavenchapel.com.

Lesly, I keep waiting for Tom to come into my office for one of our 4 hour visits and a 15 minute buying spree at the end of our visit. I'm sure that this will be a difficult week with the one year anniversary passing of Tom. We miss you old friend.

August 1, 2013

Lesly, I just found out this afternoon. I had no idea. I am so sorry and certainly you and the girls will be in my prayers. It seems like yesterday I saw him at the gym. I still remember when you first moved to the neighborhood and meeting you at the park and we talked. Although I am far away now, my heart just goes out to you. Tom was always the nicest man and wonderful spending his time coaching the girls in grade school BB. I am sorry I wasn't able to be at the service. Love to you and the girls!

I have owned Husker Hounds since 1995. I have been doing business with Tom since we both started our businesses. Tom and I would talk sports and family for 99% of our meetings. I loved Tom. He loved his family first and foremost. He loved his Hawkeyes. But most of all, Tom loved life. He had a passion for life that I hope to keep burning in my life. I'm going to miss you, Tom. You were my buddy. Save us all a seat in Heaven.

Tom was my basketball coach at Christ the King in 7th and 8th grade. Not only did he teach us the fundamentals of basketball, but through his actions demonstrated how to be a good husband, loving father and great role model. His passion for life and for the team was visible in every interaction. Thank you Tom for being a great teacher. I hope I can serve your memory through my own actions. B.E.E.F.
