I met Dr. Ing when he was an attending physician and I was an intern at Detroit General (Receiving, Wayne State Univ. School of Med) in 1968. Dr. Ing and Dr. Yoshikazu Morita were my mentors. I have used several editions of the Hankbook of Dialysis, coauthored with Dr. Daugirdas and Blake as my preferred and easy to use reference to treat patients and to prepare for the board exams. I greeted him at several ASN meetings over the years. I pray for consolation for his Family.

Todd was a great mentor to me helping get our research on dialyzer allergy off the ground in Wiesbaden, Germany. He assisted with publications and stayed in touch almost 4 decades. A great loss for the Neprhology community. Condolences to your family.
Fare well, my friend!

My heartfelt condolences to the Ing family. I am proud to say that I was trained under Dr. Ing who is a true mentor and an inspiration for me. I admired his dedication, humbleness, and his love for teaching. I admired his dream and effort of providing home dialysis to rural areas using tap water to make instant PT Solutions. He attended my son's (Kevin) one-month-old celebration and watched him grow into a doctor. He gave my son the opportunity to write part of a chapter in the latest book he edited. We met up with Dr. Ing in Chinatown this summer while celebrating Kevin's medical school graduation. He gave one of his lifelong nephrology books he kept on acid-base balance as well as a red envelope as his graduation gift. He is like a grandfather figure to my son. I will truly miss him from the bottom of my heart. I am sure he rested in peace in Heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with the beloved family.

I know Dr. Ing as both a mentor to me and my mother, and it can be said that he has mentored at least 2 generations of doctors following him. Although I am just now starting my career as a 1st year Internal Medicine Resident, it is thanks to Dr. Ing that I was able to begin building my CV as a chapter co-author for some of his many books, including his last, Nobel and Lasker Laureates of Chinese Descent. I am grateful to him for his contributions to both me and my mothers careers, as well as the broader medical field where he stood at the peak of Nephrology as a true expert in his field.

Todd and I were house officers together at Montreal General Hospital in the late 1950s. He distinguished himself immediately as a brilliant doctor, respectful by all. We were friends for life, even though we saw each other only rarely. Known to everyone as "S.T." Back then, Todd taught be how to use chopsticks, and gave me a little card bearing the names of the best things to order in a Chinese restaurant! I have it to this day. Rest in peace, S.T.
