Tom L Fanning, 63, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2024.

Tom was born February 24, 1961, in St. Joseph Mo to Janice and Norman Fanning. He attended Blair Elementary, Truman Middle School, and Central High School. Tom was the proud owner of Tom Fanning trash service and was loved and respected by his customers.  Tom greeted everyone he met with a warm smile, a tall tale, and a good joke.

“We sure are going to miss Tom. Super nice guy and even better at his job! Every pet on his route is really going to miss him! Our dog would hear him coming and be waiting for Tom to throw down a handful of Milk Bones!” - Deanna Bryson-Musser (Facebook).

Tom was a big sports fan and lifelong collector of baseball cards and rare coins. Tom was a regular contributor to The Barry Burr radio show. Tom enjoyed playing and coaching softball, bowling, playing cards and traveling to southern Missouri. Tom enjoyed doing volunteer work throughout St. Joseph. Tom was also an avid lover of cats and dogs.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Janice Fanning and Norman Fanning,  older brother Jack Fanning and brother-in-law Jesse Kerns, and several aunts and uncles. Not sure what to say?

Went to school with Tom, sad to hear about his passing!!

Deepest condolences, prayers and thoughts are with the family.

I never had the privilege of meeting Tom. However, I knew his voice as he shared well-researched facts, figures, and down-to-earth observations on Barry Burr's Hot Line. I will always remember his father's quote, "Every good day is one less bad day".

Send my sincerest sympathies .Tom was a wonderful guy . He was my Trashman since back in the 80's. Sure am going to miss my talks with him at Wal-mart May all find peace .

Sorry to hear this! Tom was truly a nice person!

We are so sorry for your loss. Tom was such a nice man and I enjoyed the times I got to visit with him when he picked up my parents’ trash. I was afraid something was wrong when the trash wasn’t picked up - don’t take the paper. All are in our prayers and it sounds like there are many great memories to help you through this tough time.

Tommy was one of dad’s best friends and will be dearly missed. He has a heart of gold and never knew a stranger. A definite talker, he also took care of every stray that came in the yard. Loved to spoil the kiddos too. (Baylee & Beau). RIP Tommy, I hope the angels know what they have.
