Tyler Hallsey Obituary

Hallsey, Tyler James
Passed away, at age 15, on July 13, 2014. Tyler was born June 8, 1999 in South Jordan, Utah, where he lived until he was nine months old. He moved with his family to Arizona, Florida and Arkansas before returning to Arizona at the age of six. Tyler was a beloved son, grandson, nephew, cousin and dedicated friend. Tyler inspired countless thousands with his unwavering faith, optimism, courage and beautiful smile. His life's mission was to help others develop greater faith and a stronger relationship with their Savior. His positive attitude during his 17-month battle with cancer was a beacon of hope to so many. His bright blue eyes would light up a room and draw in all that met him. Tyler was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served his friends, family and Savior diligently and with an eager heart. Tyler was well rounded, finding joy in learning, music, sports and family. Tyler was an excellent student and loved to learn. He was an avid reader and an excellent writer; he was so proud to earn a perfect score on his seventh grade AIMS test in writing. Tyler was an accomplished pianist and shared that love with his best friend and cousin, Mitchell. However, Tyler's passion was athletics. He played all sports, and could always be found throwing a ball to his mom, dad, brother, sisters or himself. He dreamed of being a professional basketball player and wanted to own a professional sports team someday. Tyler is survived by his loving parents, Christopher J. and Kathleen, two older sisters, Kylie and McKenzie, younger brother Tanner, grandparents Gerald and Nelda Bellon and Jim and Edna Hallsey. The family would like to thank the staff at Phoenix Children's Hospital for their tender and loving care of Tyler. A visitation will be held on Friday July 18, 2014 from 5-8pm at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday July 19, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2939 W. Rose Garden Lane at 10am. Burial to follow at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 West Beardsley Road. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Cure Starts Now Foundation, 10280 Chester Road Cincinnati, OH 45215.

Like everyone who knew him, and many who didn't, my time with Tyler was far too short. Yet his impact and memories are forever in my life. My love and thoughts are with his wonderful family. I look forward and hope to see Big T again. I am sure he has moved on to helping many others and is serving with the same, or increased, excellence, as he did on this earth. I am blessed for having him in my life.

Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with you--so so sorry we can't give you a hug. I couldn't help thinking of three characteristics that have been on my mind a lot lately from a book called Whatever It Takes when I saw your post. They are "fierce resolve, tremendous passion, and relentless persistence." I am certain Tyler and all of you have those. We love you!! Steve and Lisa Cutler
