Not sure what to say?

Dr. Butcher was my music history teacher at Howard University. An extraordinary person and an educator of the highest caliber. RIP.

Dr. Butcher was a formidable scholar and pianist. More significantly from my perspective, she was a good friend. May she rest in peace.

Just speaking about Dr. Butcher recently. Many good and fun memories. She opened doors in Music.

I will be forever grateful for this exemplary scholar and guiding light. Her legacy will endure! Rest in Peace, Dr. Butcher.

Dr. Butcher was in a class of her own. I will always remember my undergraduate days in her Music History class at Howard. She granted my permission to use her 1970 research of Ethnomusicology supported by Dept. Of H.E.W. for our National Gospel Convention Institute to enhance our curricula studies. My sincere condolences.

Dr. Butcher initially engaged the legendary Donald Byrd to establish a Jazz Institute at Howard University and in 1975 she appointed me to design and administer degree programs in jazz studies. Her unwavering support and encouragement were crucial to the early development and the evolution of jazz education at Howard University. Rest in eternal peace Dr. Butcher.

Arthur Dawkins, Ph.D.
