VARTAN GREGORIAN

Dr. Gregorian was a dynamic university president of Brown University when I met him, always highly visible, always accessible to students, always passionate about the intellectual mission of the school. He will be missed.

Vartan Gregorian taught me European Intellectual History at Penn. He was one of the most influential persons in my life in that his course sparked a lifelong interest in the history of philosophy. He was a great scholar and teacher, as well as a kind and thoughtful person. I cannot thank him enough.

Vartan Gregorian's friendships were legion and enduring. My friendship with him began in 1970 when I was a graduate student and continued through the decades as we became university administrators and colleagues in philanthropy. I will value his friendship always as I remember, with gratitude, his many kindnesses.
