I had Mrs. Kern as a 4th grade student at Maple Lawn Elementary School in 1958-59. I was a very shy student and was the only Indian child in her room. Her classroom was a great place to be because she made me feel safe and secure. Mrs. Kern's classroom was the one place that I didn't get picked on or teased by the other students, because she wouldn't stand for it. I had Mrs Kern as a teacher in 3rd grade at Maple Lawn Elementary in Sunmer, WA in 1969. I have many memories of Mrs Kern as a teacher, and she will never be fogotten. One of my favorite memories is when she gave out plants at the end of the school year, and I brought home my first cactus. As a third grader I did not fully appreciate the job she did as a teacher. I can truly say that am thankful that she was my teacher.
