Virginia was such a kind, funny, and caring neighbor. With her sister living across the street from us, we had many lovely talks with her through the years. Our boys considered Virginia's sister Edna like a grandmother. It was always great to see Virginia take her walks through the neighborhood. Nothing seemed to get her down. We were blessed to have her as a neighbor on Monroe Street.

Virginia was an independent soul - a role model for the modern single woman. She worked her way through school with loving support from her parents. She always had a good job and eventually earned enough to buy her own home. She took GREAT pride in being fiscally careful and NEVER PAID INTEREST ON ANYTHING!
But for me it was her tales of the travels she and her sister Edna took that hooked me: ocean voyages on freighters ("best view of the Panama Canal and no need to dress up for dinner!"); hot air ballooning in Africa; river cruises throughout Europe; and our shared love of Paris. Her family comes from the Azores and she and Edna traveled there several times - to see family and to learn about the country of "their people". I wish we had been able to travel there with her - to see it through her eyes.
Virginia I will keep traveling - in your honor!!

Our family will remember and treasure Virginia forever. She was a constant in my girls' childhood as they grew up across the street from Virginia. Faithful neighbor and friend to our whole family. She was full of wisdom and smarts and kept up with current matters. Her stories were lively and colorful of her many travels and childhood in San Jose. We loved her dearly like family. XO
