W. Miller Obituary

Dr. W. Stacy Miller
May 26, 1935 - August 2, 2022
Raleigh, North Carolina - William Stacy Miller, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
Stacy was born in a simple farmhouse on a Harnett County farm on May 26, 1935. His childhood was spent in and around Benson in Johnston County - a place he held dear for 87 years. He attributed "any success he might have had in life" to the values he learned from Johnston County folks, including the love of family, the reward of hard work, and the importance of kindness. He exemplified these values throughout his life.
The first in his family to attend college, Stacy graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1957 and from UNC Medical School in 1961. His first day in Cobb dorm as a freshman marks the start of his life-long devotion to all things Tar Heel.
Stacy married the love of his life, Faye Lee, of Dunn, NC, in 1962 and subsequently joined the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon. The newlyweds moved to RAF Bentwaters Air Force Base in Suffolk, England, where he cared for pilots and their families. During their time in England, Stacy and Faye started their own family. After returning to the United States in 1965, he entered the Dermatology Residency Program at Duke University Medical Center.
Stacy opened his own dermatology practice in Raleigh in 1969, with nurse Lillian Robbins by his side. Together they enjoyed seeing patients for over 40 years. Stacy loved getting to know people and helping them. He considered every patient a friend and made a point to converse during office visits--much to the dismay of his scheduler. Even after his official retirement, Stacy continued to see patients by substituting for area dermatologists. Although he gave up his locum tenens work just before his 83rd birthday, he continued helping friends and family with various dermatological problems and even gave a consultation to a family member just days before his death. Being a dermatologist and helping others was a part of his DNA.
Stacy loved his Heavenly Father, UNC Chapel Hill, all Tar Heel sports, the New York Yankees, his small-town roots, ice cream, red tulips, The ACC channel, a hot dog, eastern North Carolina, White Memorial Presbyterian Church, his patients, his friends, and his family - especially his children and grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Faye L. Miller; his parents, Vera Hodges Lloyd and Robert L. Lloyd, and Emery L. Miller and Elwood C. Miller; and his sister, Daisy Miller Lowery, and brother-in-law, James H. Lowery.
He is survived by a daughter, Tiffany Miller Clark, and husband, William G. Clark IV, of Raleigh/Tarboro, NC; a son, William Stacy Miller II, and wife, Blannie Cheng Miller, of Raleigh; and a son, Robert Lance Miller, and wife, Anna Berney Miller, of Southport, NC. Papa, as he was affectionately called, also leaves behind six grandchildren: Miller Clark Minton and husband, Ellis Edwards Minton, of Raleigh, William Grimes Clark V of Raleigh, William Stacy Miller III and Hodges Davis Miller of Raleigh, and Faye Malin Miller and Kerry Mantle Miller of Southport. Stacy is also survived by his brother, Emery Lee Miller, and wife, Sally K. Miller, of Benson, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Stacy also leaves behind his special friend Sandy Fain, with whom he enjoyed many adventures during the latter part of his life.
There will be a memorial service at White Memorial Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 9, at 2:00 pm. The family will be receiving friends at Pickard Hall at White Memorial Presbyterian Church on Monday, August 8, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
"…Faith, hope, and love but the greatest of these is love."

It is a great privilege to have known Stacy as an esteemed colleague, friend and family lover. God gave him a great sense of humor and his trademark
smile and friendliness. His earthly journey is now
completed, so now he will dwell with his Lord and
Saviour Christ Jesus in Heaven. We all thank God for
His presence in our lives.

To the family: I am so sorry to learn of Stacy's passing. Stacy was always such a dear friend as long as I can remember. My mother taught him in school at Oakdale School house near Benson, NC. As I was not quite of school age, I would sometimes go to school with her and sit with Stacy at his desk during class. Many years later, I was honored to be in Stacy and Faye's wedding. He was also my Dermatologist for many years as well. It is sad to know he is gone and I know you all will surely miss him. May God wrap His loving arms around each of you and bring peace and comfort in your time of grief.
