Walter Dohl Obituary

Dohl, Walter C. 87, of Posen, IL died peacefully Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Manor Care in Davenport, IA. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00am Thursday, September 26th, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 14700 Kildare Avenue, Midlothian, IL. Interment for Walter and his wife Virgene, who died April 4, 2004, will be held at Bethania Cemetery in Justice, IL. Mr. Dohl was born March 22, 1926 in Blue Island, IL to Walter C. Sr. and Frieda Dohl. He married Virgene Hanrahan on November 15, 1947. He was a railroad engineer with the Illinois Central for 48 years. He also served as the Mayor of Posen for four years and during the 50's and 60's as the Police Magistrate. Other meaningful roles he held were: President of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, President of the Posen-Robins School District, President of Bremen Youth Commission, active member of the Republican Party, President of Dohl Development Corp and owner of the Paris Landing (TN) KOA Campground. He was passionate about trains, hunting, fishing, boating, downhill skiing and photography. Survivors include daughter, Susan Taylor of Murray, KY; sons: W. Calvin (Joan) Dohl of Davenport, IA and David (Mary Jo) Dohl of Orland Park, IL; grandchildren: Daniel, Katrina, Craig, Lisa, Christine, Nicolette, Tracy and Melissa; great-grandchildren: Jaidan, Ashley, Parker, Grace, Zander and David; sisters: Carolyn Lash of Springville, TN and Joyce Czajkowski of Posen, IL. Preceded in death by wife - Virgene, grandson -Michael and brother - William. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, IA, is assisting their family with arrangements.
