Dear Walter, my mentor, my friend. You inspired me in so many ways and you will indeed live on here at the Army Corps of Engineers where you contributed so much and touched so many hearts. I know you are now carousing with old friends, having lunch with the ROMEROs with a smile on your face and music in your voice because you know that Rosemary is with you. You and your family will be in my prayers and I will miss you -- but I will celebrate your life and your legacy.

My deepest sympathy to Walter's family ...he will be truly missed by me. I've known him for 15+ years, when he worked for Maguire Group Inc. in Waltham, Massachusetts doing PR work for the firm. I was Vincent Cangiano's (CEO) secretary at the time so we talked constantly. He took me to Dr. DeLorme's office at Milton Hospital to discuss my potential bilateral knee replacement. He was my saviour at that time and we had our daily jokes. We discussed both his and my work and personal problems. Rosemary was a great and loving wife and friend and I missed her after she died. I was surprised to see you looking exactly as your father and your voice is similar to his. He was so proud of you. I am sorry I was unable to be there when he was at the home. I will never forgive myself for not calling him last month. I truly will miss him. He was a great man...kind, considerate and loving. God Bless You and Your Family. My love to all.

I came to know Walter in the past few years. We had a number of colorful conversations about his experiences in the newspaper industry among other things. He was a very genuine human being who lived a remarkable life, a great source of strength and inspiration, always willing to give an ear to your problems regardless of his own. A very kind, compassionate and caring man. It was an honor to know Walter for the short time I did. He will be missed.

Walter was a much loved uncle and will be greatly missed. He was the last of four brothers who were orphaned as young children during the great flu epedemic of 1918-1920. Among the things he will be remembered for are stories of his difficult youth that were alway laced with humor, somtimes black, but alway entertaining. We alway enjoyed our vists with Walter in Maine and they will remain treasured memories. Goodbye Walter, rest in peace after a lifes work well done.
