Walter Melancon

MELANCON Walter Melancon, born on December 21, 1923 in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at the age of 81, at River Region Hospice House of River Ridge, LA. Walter was a resident of Gretna, LA and was a Hurricane Katrina evacuee from Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center in Algiers, LA. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Lena Cardinale Melancon. He is survived by his loving daughters, Carol M. Rodrigue and Elizabeth M. Eiselen; and son-in-law, George J. Eiselen III. Mr. Melancon is also survived by five grandchildren, Rebecca A. Rodrigue, Michael J. Rodrigue, Sr., and wife, Donna P. Rodrigue, Brian J. Eiselen and fiance, Carlina Castro, Kristy E. Vidrine and husband, Elrick W. Vidrine, Jr. and Katherine E. Eiselen. Walter also had four great-grandchildren, Angel Marie Rodrigue, Michael J. Rodrigue, Jr., Victoria E. Vidrine and Elrick W. Vidrine III. Mr. Melcanon is further survived by is brother, Aubrey Melancon of St. Martinville, LA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Melancon and Bella Rose Patin Melancon of Breaux Bridge, LA; and siblings, Isabelle Tauzin, A.J. Melancon, Eno Melancon, Gauthier Melancon, Wilfred Melancon; and son-in-law, Sterling J. Rodrigue. Walter was past Secretary and Treasurer of Barber and Beauticians Union Local #522, and the first King of Mardi Gras 2000 at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center of Algiers, LA. He was also a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy with the Armed Guard in the Pacific and Atlantic. Relatives and friends of the family; also officers and members of VFW Post 6640 are invited to attend the Funeral Mass from the Chapel of WESTSIDE/LEITZ-EAGAN FUNERAL HOME, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA on Friday, December 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
