Not sure what to say?

Dear Gretta and family,

We were so saddened to learn of Wayne's passing and remember him with great warmth and affection from our years in the Des Moines stake. I recall the numerous temple trips to Chicago; Wayne's stories and singing made that long bus ride delightful! He was always so warm and kind to everyone. We pray your heart will feel peaceful and comforted as you draw strength from your loved ones and the tender care of our Heavenly Father.

Our years in the Des Moines Iowa Stake were times of profound personal growth as young parents trying to juggle the demands and blessings of family, Church and graduate school. We will forever appreciate the beautiful examples of Wayne and Gretta Merkley! Somehow we missed notification of Brother Merkley's passing until today or we would have personally expressed our love and admiration. My Heavenly Father always bless you with sweet remembrances.

Gretta and family: We are grieving with you. We feel honored to have been associated with you in the DM Iowa Stake. Pres. Merkley's jolly nature and love of life was contagious. We are good friends with the young man who took his place at Drake. (this is a very hard task as, Wayne is a legend there)
Come HOME anytime.

Dear Sister Merkley,
Carol and I are deeply saddened to learn of Wayne's untimely passing. We felt a special kinship with him from the time we arrived in the Des Moines Ward. We felt doubly blessed to have him as our stake president at the time we departed Des Moines. He laughed and teased me over our new location in Cedar City's Fiddlers Canyon. He recalled past history of severe flooding.
I deemed it an honor to serve with him. I will always remember Wayne as one of my very...

To the family of Wayne, I was very sorry to hear of the passing of my good friend, Wayne. I grew up in Beaver, one block from Wayne ib the old Beaver Second Ward. He became one of my dearest friends, meeting on nights with the other neighborhood kids to play kick the can and other excitment that would happen. I will always remember going down to his fathers print shop, and seing Wayne helping out, and having the printing business explained. It was a priveledge to have ben in the same...

Thank you Thank you, for all you did for us. Your love, kindness, and wonderful Bass voice will never be forgotten.

Gretta and family
We count President Merkley among the greatest men we have known. He touched our lives in so many ways while we were members of the Des Moines Stake and we have thought of him often. He lived as an example for many of us and was always an inspiration. May you take comfort in the good that he did here on this earth. We will miss him greatly

Fun guy and great neigbor.....We'll miss you Wayne. Jay & Lana

Gretta (Clark, Elain, Brian and Jean)
40 years have come and gone since our first encounter in Des Moines. As we travelled across the Mid-West and NE United States, and Texas, Wayne and Gretta were always one of the first to contact and bring up to date. Wayne was always and kind and caring friend (IN and Out of the church). Thank you for always being our friend
