Bill was a level-headed boss, a person to call on for wise counsel, a friend, a class act and a true Southern gentleman.

Bill in foreground at our holiday party in the 1970's
I had the good fortune to work for Bill as an inspector in waste management. I always appreciated how he would amble down the hall in his customary uniform (blue oxford cloth shirt, tie, khakis, loafers) with his cup of coffee and sit down at the big table in the middle of our team's area to discuss the day's cases and talk shop. It helped us to learn a common sense approach to our complicated regulatory business, and it was true leadership. Thank you, Bill!
