William Bostwick Obituary

William Maner Bostwick, Jr., 80, died of a long illness in St. Augustine surrounded by his family.
"A Life Well Lived." He was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina and James Island. He played football and was a lifeguard at the Charleston beaches. Bill graduated from Clemson, in civil engineering. He was a professional engineer with a specialty in environmental engineering and worked for the State of Florida in the Department of Environmental Regulation for 35 years. Bill was active in his communities with positions of responsibilities in neighborhood groups and especially his churches. A life long Episcopalian, he served on the vestry at St. Richards, Winter Park, for several terms and joined Trinity Episcopal Parish and was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and loved his brothers in Christ. Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He never missed a sports event that his children or grandchildren participated in. Bill was especially fond of his grandchildren and was so proud of them. He loved music, traveling, the beach, walking on the beach and sitting by the ocean. Bill had no trouble retiring. He lived in St. Augustine full time since 2003 and was living here at the time of his death.
Bill served in the U.S. Army for 3 years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Ann, his three children Billy (Lisa) of Winter Park, Michael (Joanna) of Beaufort, S.C. and Margaret of Apopka, and his grandchildren Gage, Carsyn, Maya, Lily and Will.
A special appreciation to Community Hospice for their loving care.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation in memory of William Bostwick, 12902 Magnolia MBC-FOUND, Tampa, FL 33612 (www.moffitt.org/giving) or Trinity Episcopal Parish, 215 St. George St., St. Augustine, FL 32084.

Bill was a level-headed boss, a person to call on for wise counsel, a friend, a class act and a true Southern gentleman.

I had the good fortune to work for Bill as an inspector in waste management. I always appreciated how he would amble down the hall in his customary uniform (blue oxford cloth shirt, tie, khakis, loafers) with his cup of coffee and sit down at the big table in the middle of our team's area to discuss the day's cases and talk shop. It helped us to learn a common sense approach to our complicated regulatory business, and it was true leadership. Thank you, Bill!
