William Hightower Obituary

William J. "Bill" Hightower, 85, of Williamsburg, passed away on January 11, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. Hightower; his sister, Florence J. Abernathy; and his parents, Henry W. and Corenna Jobe Hightower, both of Alamance County, NC.
Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a meat cutter and meat cutting instructor before spending 45 years as a grocery store manager at Colonial Stores in Hampton Roads. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at the Williamsburg Country Club for many years. He had an immense love of golf, and was a life member of the Williamsburg Host Lions Club with 34 years of service.
He will be missed by his sons, Charles Linwood (Sheila) of Virginia Beach, VA and Steven Douglas of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Amy-Lynn Yeager (Nick) of Newbury Park, CA and Rebecca L. Hightower (Vaner) of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandson, Jackson Fox Yeager of Newbury Park, CA; sister, Nell H. Copley of Richmond, VA; and brothers, James H. Hightower of Greenville, MS and Bobby C. Hightower of Mebane, NC.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 15 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, where a service will follow at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to Williamsburg Host Lions Club, P.O. Box 753, Williamsburg, VA 23187. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
