William Lipscomb Jr.

William Eugene Lipscomb Jr., 80, died on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011.
Known to his friends as "Bill" and to his family as "Pop," he was born in Atlan­ta, Ga. He served four years in the Navy, two of which were spent in Korea. While living in Rich­mond, he retired after 30 years as corporate vice president of Customer Relations and Sales Service from A.H. Robins Pharmaceutical Co.
He served as chairman of the Finance Committee and chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Chamberlayne Heights Methodist Church.
Since moving to Williamsburg, Mr. Lipscomb had served on the Korean War Project, the Advisory Board of the Williamsburg Land Conservancy Board, Board of Directors of the Williamsburg German Club, chairman of Building and Maintenance for 14 years for the Wareham's Point Parcel Committee, and on the EPB for KCSA. He was a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed visiting his summer home in Mathews County with his wife and family where he loved to watch the Chesapeake Bay, dine at the Mathews Yacht Club, and take care of his purple martins. He was an avid Georgia Tech fan and was chairman of the fundraising for Friends of Georgia Tech.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joe Ann Lipscomb; daughter, Cathy Wilson; son, Joe Lipscomb; and three grandchildren, Erin Wilson, and Max and Lindsey Lipscomb.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home. A service will follow at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place at Smithers Cemetery in Mathews County.
