Bill Lowe was a larger-than-life fixture in my childhood, as he was for most of my 8 siblings. He had a laugh heartier than our dad's booming bass and zero tolerance for whining (as befitted a veteran of his WWII experience). Bill was one of my dad's dearest friends.
