MCBIRNIE
William Stuart McBirnie, age 72, went peacefully to be with our Lord May 19, 2014 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on June 18, 1941 in Des Moines, IA to Dr. William Stuart II and Phoebe Jane McBirnie. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed. William was an accomplished athlete and outdoorsman. He played football for Baylor University and the University of Tulsa before playing for the Canadian Football League and the San Antonio Toros. He went on to coach High School football at several schools around Texas before ending his career as the Assistant Athletic Director for SAISD. He loved hunting, fishing, going to church, and being with his dogs and family. He is survived by his two sons, Christopher McBirnie and wife Barbara and Patrick McBirnie; three grandchildren, Austin, Brittin and Brennan McBirnie. The Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Condolences may be offered at http://www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com./ In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I remember Coach McBirnie from my days at Southwest High School in San Antonio. I thought he was the coolest guy on the planet. He gave me a ride home from practice when my ride home got confused and I was amazed by him. May he rest in Football Heaven.

Chris and Pat, I was so shocked and saddened to hear of your dad's passing. I have such wonderful memories of him when he was little. I remember your Uncle Bob an I taking him to the zoo when we had him for a day, and of course, many memories as he grew up and became the fine man that he was. My thoughts and prayers are with you boys and your families. I plan to send a copy of the obituary to the London relatives as they are always interested in the McBirnie family over here.

I played against Stuart when I attended Harlandale High School, and Tulsa, when I was at the University of Arkansas.

We were Teammates in Toledo, Ohio with The Toledo Tornadoes, and when the The San Antonio Toros were formed. I knew him to be a Kind, Gentle man. My Prayers are for his Family. He will be missed.
