William J. McNamara

Mr. McNamara was my high school English teacher in the 1990s.

Herr McNamara was among the finest teachers (German) I ever knew. He was able to interact with so many personality types and language ability levels- a true diplomat and communicator. "When a great man dies, for years the light he leaves behind him, lies on the paths of men."- Longfellow

My parents were neighbours on Bunker Hill Road in New Britain. Remember he attended my mother's memorial in 1979. Recall the entire family. Condolences.

I first met Bill as a fellow teacher at Pulaski High School. He quickly became one of my lifelong heroes. My deepest sympathy to Sam and the children. Pat Spring

I first met 'Mayor Bill' when he was directing traffic at the newly opened Pulaski High School. I was lucky enough to be in both his English and German Classes when he later joined the faculty. I was not a very good student but with his help and encouragement I made to the end. Four years later when I graduated from College he was one of the first to call and invited me for a visit. My deepest sympathies, condolences and prayers go out to the family of Billy Mac. I was a very good friend of his nephew, Paul A. Shaker and met Mayor McNamara through my friendship with "Shake". I enjoyed listening and talking to him because he had such a great sense of humor and, unlike politicians today, he respected any opposing political view points. The world lost a great mayor, teacher, and human being. R.I.P. Billy Mac!

Mr. McNamara was one of the most influential teachers I have had. Learning German, I will never unlearn the difference between `an´ and `auf´ once bill jumped up on the desk! RIP Herr Pacyna
