It has been 9 years and I still think of Bill every time our Tiger football teams get together and many days in between because Bill played a major part in my most famous play as a DePauw football player. As a former DePauw football teammate of Bill, I want to express the sadness of all the ballplayers who knew him. We will remember the Scaife stories with fondness.

I worked for "Snapper" in the mid-80s at HQ Tactical Air Command when I was a captain and he was a lt colonel. He was bigger than life, a kind and caring person. And, he taught me more about leadership than almost everyone else combined. Over the years I've heard his words coming out of my mouth.

My sincerest condolences to Bill's family and friends. Although I hadn't seen Bill since the mid-80s, my memories of him are still vivid and crisp, as if I had lived them yesterday. It was an honor to have served and to have flown with him. He will continue to be the gold standard against which I measure integrity, dedication to duty, and professionalism - I hope to match his examples as I continue on my journey through life. I will remember him with great fondness.
