HAUKE FUNERAL HOME - COPLAY Obituary

William L. Scherr, 82, of Northampton, died October 9, 2014 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was married to Eleanore A. (Pail) Scherr for 59 years. Born in Coplay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Knittelfelder)Scherr. He was a lessee and operator for Park and Shop Inc., Allentown. He was a member and usher of Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, Northampton. He was a life member of the Coplay Saengerbund and the National Rifle Association and a member of the Coplay Lions Club. He was the first cubmaster of Cub Pack #99 of Northampton. Honorably serving his country in the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post #454 and a member of its Military Honor Guard for many years. He was a cafeteria volunteer for the former Our Lady of Hungary School, Northampton.

Survivors, Wife, son, William J. and his wife, Melissa of Whitehall; granddaughters, Samantha and Shayanne. He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Charles, Alfred and John, and a sister, Mary.

Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2014, Robert A. Hauke Funeral Home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Queenship of Mary Catholic Church, Northampton. Friends and family may call 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday evening and 9-10:00 a.m. Monday morning in the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery, Northampton.

As Commander of CWV Post #454, this is a great loss to our Military Honor Guard Family. Bill was so dedicated to doing this for others so today we our going to give our dear friend a final send off that he was so much a part of for years. Kept him in the loop even though he could not participate. God Bless our comrade!!

Woke up to that phone call no one wants to get. I love you so much pop-pop. All the wonderful things you did for Sam and I. All the great times at the cabin, taking me to piano lessons, guitar lessons I know your in a much more beautiful place but it doesn't take away my sadness.
