Ms. Shirley & Dr. Shirley, Jr.,
I was so saddened to hear about your loss. I was on vacation when I received the news. I still can't believe it.

He was such a sincere and kind man. I am so glad that I had the pleasure of working with him for many years. He will missed by everyone who knew him. He always had a way of making everyone feel special in their own way.

My thoughts & prayers are with you at this time.

Dear Shirley Family:

You are in my thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Dr. Shirley was a Macon icon and a mentor to many. I always appreciated his interest in my life during my time at Stratford in the 1970s.

May God be with you and comfort you during this time.

Dear Mrs. Shirley and Family,
Dr. Shirley was my doctor from 1969 until his retirement (when he told me I had to have another doctor that he would be retiring). This was hard for me to do. I am from Bainbridge and my visits to his office always was a time of discussing Bainbridge. Lucille Shirley and I were classmates.

Dr. Shirley was a one of a kind doctor who made his patients feel they were important and his care for us was a comfort.

You are in our prayers.

Bill Jr. your dad was a great man and because of his kindness myself and others were able to reach their goals in life.He was a very compassionate man I believe this scripture best describes Dr. Shirley. He will rescue the poor when they cry to him ; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. Tim Clifton

Dear Mrs. Shirley and Family,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Shirley's passing this Sunday. He was a true gentleman. A man of genuine character and class. He had an open and true friendliness, and a real concern for others that is a wonderful and rare find.

I fondly remember growing up next door to you all and seeing him "piddling in the yard" as he would tell me. When he would see me or anyone in our family outside he would always peer through the hedge that separated our houses and ask how we were doing. I always looked forward to seeing him and thoroughly enjoyed having these friendly conversations.

When I told Logan Sunday that Dr. Shirley had died she told me that she had actually thought about him earlier that day when she was at a friend's house and went swimming. As young as she was, she still remembered the lessons he taught her in your swimming pool.

What a priviledge it was to know Dr. Shirley.

My deepest condolences are with you all.

Many years ago, just out of high school, I was blessed to be offered a job at OBGYN. What a wonderful place to "grow up"! Dr. Neal, Dr. Shirley, Dr. Jackson, Dr. Browne, Dr. Roddenberry and Dr. May was a wonderful group of doctors to work for. They along with Mrs. Moran and Betty taught me so much about working in the medical field. So many of them are gone and I'm sorry for those who did not have the opportunity to work with these fine men and women. Dr. Shirley was the gentle giant. A fine man who cared about his patients and took the time to really listen to their complaints. The medical community has lost a very special man.

Shirley family,
Dr. Shirley happened to be on call when I was about to deliver our son 24 years ago. My physician was present and stated that I might deliver by C-section. I thank God that Dr. Shirley was on call with his expertise. He stated "Oh, she can have it" and I did (naturally). Afterwards, he looked at me in a peculiar way and said "you look like a different person". It was a joy to know him.
