Not sure what to say?

March 10, 2017

In honor of my cousin, William Unger, whom I only knew briefly during my childhood in DeRidder when he'd come with his parents to visit. Later, when I myself was an art student at LSU in mid-60s I would hear report of him,as he was then an established reputable painter and artist. Happy trails, Cousin!

Praying for your family as you remember and celebrate Bill's life.

Recently while my wife, Karla, and I were in Baton Rouge I had an opportunity to visit with Bill in the Carrington (Rehabilitation) Place. He looked well and recognized me right away. While he said his speech was adversely affected, I could easily understand him and he was pleased to have a visitor.

When I transferred my Greenville, North Carolina, membership to his Kiwanis club a few years ago I was fortunate enough to begin sitting next to this Korean (Stinson L-5) Spotter Plane pilot and distinguished artist during our club's Thursday luncheon meetings. And I especially appreciated the way he made me feel genuinely welcome.

I missed visiting with him after we moved to Monticello, Arkansas, in January and regret never having had the opportunity to visit his studio/office. I had the highest regard for his service to our country and was honored to be counted among his many friends.

David and Jennifer- So sad to hear of Mr. Stracener's passing. I remember when he would come to the office each day to gather his information. I know you have wonderful memories and hope they will help in the times ahead.

Our LSU friendship grew through the years as Bill always responded to my requests for help by donating his time and art.
