Melton George Stracener

Funeral services for Melton Stracener, 94, of Chandler, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Liles and Pastor Matt Sims officiating. Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Stracener passed away on February 18, 2025, in Tyler.
Melton George Stracener was born on June 4, 1930, in Pittsburg, Texas, the son of Samuel William Stracener and Mae Julia (Tucker) Scarbrough Stracener. Husband of 72 years to Lucille (deceased September 10, 2024), and father of 6, Melton Stracener was a man who led a storied life. He was from a large, hard-working family that gathered their crops and hunted for their supper. Joining the Air Force at 19, he traveled the world, much of it with his family, and did everything from loading bombs into airplanes to working on top-secret radar systems. After his retirement, he and his wife started an electronics business in Golden, Colorado. Their family enjoyed their time in the beautiful mountains, but were ready to move to Texas - it was home. Here he baled hay, dug wells, raised cows, and farmed the land -- sometimes with his mule, Pete. This time around, those tasks were a joy!
He was a Godly man with firm ethics and values, and he expected the same from others. He was a big man in more ways than his size and he will leave a void larger than he could have imagined. He recently said, " You only go around once, but if you do it right, once is enough." He did it right.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille Stracener; 13 siblings; his son, Mark Lee Stracener and two grandchildren, Jason Hebert and Matthew Stracener.
Survivors include his children, Steve Stracener of Pueblo West, Colorado, Sherry Hebert and husband Julen of Frankston, Bradley Stracener of Tyler, Broderick Stracener and wife Katelin of Chandler, and Melanie McNiel and husband Carl of Mineola; his grandchildren, Kimberly Stracener, George Stracener, Katie Hebert, Scott Hebert, Samuel McNiel, and Hannah McNiel; his great-grandchildren, Abbigail Swierczynski, Rebekkah Swierczynski, Benjamin Swierczynski, Jeremiah Swierczynski, Melton Stracener, Richard Stracener, Theyra Swartz, Crysten Shern, and Renee Hebert; and his great-great-grandchildren, Morgana Shern, Walker Swartz, and Robert Swartz.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 2-3:00 p.m. at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home prior to the service.
