William Stroup Obituary

William "Will" Earl Stroup, 26, Southside, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at Collier-Butler Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2018. Blake Jones will officiate. Burial will be at Williams-Southside Memorial Park.
Will was born July 30, 1991, and was a lifelong resident of Southside. He graduated from Southside High School, Class of 2009, and was attending Jacksonville State University, where he was due to graduate in the fall of 2018. Will had plans to move to Japan after graduation to teach English. This was a longtime dream for him and he was working so hard to accomplish it.
He loved music and was a very talented musician. He played the tuba in the Pride of Southside Marching Band and the Etowah Youth Orchestra and had taught himself how to play piano.
Reading and writing was another passion of Will's, and he had aspirations of being an author one day. Will was a kind and compassionate young man. For the past several years he helped take care of his grandmother, Alice. He spent time with her daily, taking her to her doctor's appointments, grocery shopping or wherever else she needed to go.
Will attended Rainbow Church of Christ and volunteered every week, running the projector and sound. He was a wonderful person who was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Will was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Jack Lasseter and Earl Stroup; uncle, Tommy Lasseter and aunt, Carrie Wallen.
He is survived by his mother, Susan Lasseter; father, Stanley Stroup; grandmothers, Virginia Lasseter, and Alice Stroup; uncles, Paul (Ginger) Lasseter, Mike Wallen, Jerry (Marla) Stroup, and Michael Stroup; close cousin and friends, Dave (Jessica) Lasseter, and Nik Amberson as well as numerous other cousins and friends.
