William Sumner Thomas

William Sumner "WS" Thomas, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, in Collierville, Tennessee, at the age of 83. Born on August 18, 1942, in Athens, Tennessee, he lived a full life dedicated to family, community, and a career in transportation.

WS was a proud alumnus of the University of Military School in Mobile, Alabama, followed by his time at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. His education laid the foundation for a successful career that spanned many years, where he was known not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his integrity and kindness to all he met.

He was deeply involved in his community and passionately served as president of the Fayette Academy Band Booster, where he supported the arts and fostered a love for music among students and families alike.

WS possessed a zest for life that shone brightly in all his pursuits. He cherished every moment spent farming and took great joy in riding jet skis. His love for animals reflected his nurturing spirit and appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. Above all, however, it was time spent with his family that brought him the most happiness.

WS is survived by his devoted wife, Linda R. Thomas, who he adored. His legacy continues through his three daughters: Tanya Schoonover, Melissa Duckett (David), and Susan Kirkpatrick (Wayne), as well as his son, Chris Thomasson. William's five grandchildren—Cody Schoonover, Amanda Elam, Brooklynne Duckett, Brody Duckett, and Jordyn Thomas—held a special place in his heart, and he reveled in their achievements and joys.

Though WS has departed from this world, he is preceded in death by his loving parents, Sumner Thomas and Eve Thomas. He leaves behind cherished memories that will remain alive in the hearts of those he touched.

A visitation was held on September 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, leading into the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville, Tennessee.

Ws's spirit will continue to guide and inspire his family, friends, and all who knew him, reminding us to embrace every moment with love and joy.
