Virginia Derrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 10 to Jul. 3, 2024.
Virginia Hearn Derrick, age 55, passed away at her residence in New Albany, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. She was born to Henry Eric Hearn and Helen Becker Hearn in Aurora, IL. She was a 1987 graduate of Myrtle High School. She attended college and obtained several degrees, one being her Master's Degree. Virginia had taught school at Ashland High School and Hickory Flat Attendance Center before becoming disabled. She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Virginia was a woman that found joy and fulfillment in fishing, and spent many hours on the water. One of her favorite pastimes was going to deer camp with her husband. These activities were not just hobbies, but a way of life. She found joy in the simple pleasures of window shopping and people watching, finding entertainment and fascination in observing the hustle and bustle of everyday life. One of Virginia's greatest joys was spending time with her daughter. Their bond was strong, and they shared many cherished moments together. Virginia cherished these moments and treasured the special connection she had with Erica. In addition to her love for her daughter, she also had a playful and mischievous side when it came to her family. She enjoyed picking on and cutting up with her loved ones, engaging in light-hearted teasing that brought laughter and joy to their gatherings. These moments of humor were a reflection of the close-knit bond that Virginia shared with her family. She will be deeply missed.

Services to honor her life will be Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm at United Funeral Service with Bro. Jason Howell and Bro. John Mark Jarrett officiating. There will be a visitation Friday evening, June 28, 2024, from 4:30 - 7:30 pm and visitation at 12:00 pm until service time also on Saturday. Burial will be at Flat Rock Cemetery.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dwayne Derrick; her precious daughter, Erica Michelle Hearn Fedrick (Ben); her son, Christopher Derrick (Keri); her mother, Helen Hearn; her sisters, Evelyn Mason, Penny Smithey, Belinda Hearn, and Bonnie Moody; her grandchildren, Logan, Emma, Attie, Steven, Everett, and one niece and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Eric Hearn and granddaughter, Briseas Delphine Fedrick.
