ROY CARRUTHERS Obituary

Roy Carruthers, 74, Artist and Illustrator, of Palm Coast, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, after a long illness. He had resided at Flagler Pines Nursing Center in Bunnell since 2010, where his warmth, ready smile and sense of humor won him many friends among the staff, volunteers, residents and their families. Roy was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on December 14, 1938, to the late Robert James and Irene Wilson Carruthers. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Robert James, Jr. An internationally known artist, award-winning illustrator and graphic designer for more than five decades, he resided in Old Greenwich, CT, and New York City. He moved to Florida 1998, settling in Palm Coast in 2002. He later served as an invited judge for one of the annual competitions of the Flagler County Art League. Roy leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 15 years, Valerie Carruthers; daughter Alison Carruthers Garb, son-in-law Matthew Garb; and grandsons Kyle and Ryan of Madison, CT; and former wife J. Pamela Carruthers of Wallingford, CT. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 4:00pm, at First United Methodist Church, 205 N. Pine Street, Bunnell, FL 32110, (386) 437-3258.
