Virginia J. Worley I thanked the Lord for you today, For hands that gave so much, For your kind and thoughtful spirit And your gentle, caring touch. I thanked the Lord for you today, For your angel heart of gold, For your words of guidance and support For arms so quick to hold. I thanked the Lord for you today, In every thought and prayer, And asked the Lord to bless you And to keep you in His care. Virginia J. Worley, age 87, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away January 8, 2008, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky, on March 11, 1920, to Fred and Virginia Donaldson. She was the youngest of five children. Virginia graduated from Fort Scott Kansas High School and moved to Springfield, Missouri, where she attended SMS. It was there she met her husband, Joe Worley. They were married on June 19, 1943, and had celebrated 37 years of marriage before he passed away in 1980. During World War II, Virginia worked at the Western Union office at the O'Reilly Hospital and moved with Joe to several Army bases throughout Texas where Joe was a fighter pilot. After the war they returned to Springfield, Missouri. Virginia was a true friend to everyone who knew her. Her kindness and love will be truly missed by friends and loved ones. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; sister Mildred Burwell and husband, Louis Burwell; and three brothers, Fred, Ray and Gene Donaldson. Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Churchill, Tulsa, Oklahoma; son Mark Worley, El Paso, Texas; her beloved grandson, Mark Churchill, O'Fallon, Missouri; nephew Jerry Burwell and wife, Beverly, Springfield, Missouri; niece Ginny Johnston, Ozark, Missouri; and several great-nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in Hazlewood Cemetery, 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2008, with the Rev. Fergus Monaghan officiating under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No formal visitation is planned; however, friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family would like to thank Community Hospice and the Integrity Home Care for their care and support during her illness. Donations may be made to the Humane Society, 3161 W. Norton Road, Springfield, Missouri, or a charity of their choice.
