MARJORIE ANDERSON Obituary

Marjorie M. Anderson, 88, died January 18, 2011 in Ft. Myers, Florida. Born the daughter of Stanley and Aileen Mahon in January of 1922, Mrs. Anderson graduated from Keewatin, Minnesota high school in 1939. She attended Hibbing Junior College before enrolling at the University of Minnesota, graduating with Majors in Home Economics and Philosophy. In 1944, she married Robert F. Anderson, a Hibbing, Minnesota resident, whom she had met while attending junior college. The couple lived in the Tampa Bay, Florida area for a number of years while Mr. Anderson served as a member of the U. S. Air Corps.

The couple spent thirty-six years in the Cleveland, Ohio area where Mr. Anderson pursued his career with the M. A. Hanna Company. Marjorie was a homemaker who was also a talented seamstress and artist. She loved the outdoors. Her hobbies included fly fishing, duck hunting and golf.

Through the years, Mrs. Anderson remained a dedicated wife, mother, friend and citizen. She and her husband Robert had three children, Judith Anderson Dengler (Theodore) Raleigh, NC, Cristopher Anderson (Mary) St. Petersburg, FL and Mark Anderson (Sherry) Ft. Myers, FL.

Upon Mr. Anderson's retiring in September 1986, the couple took up permanent residency in Sanibel, Florida. Marjorie and her husband, Robert, were generous contributors of time and money to local organizations and schools. Two facilities bear their names: The Anderson Theater on the Bishop Verot Campus, as well as the Robert F. Anderson Field House at St. Michaels Lutheran School. Mrs. Anderson was also active in the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.

Surviving are her three children, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Robert F. and Marjorie M. Anderson Family Foundation. Among other institutions, the Foundation supports cancer research at the M. D. Andersen Cancer Research Center. The address of the Foundation is:

A comforting word from God, "Come to me, all you who are toiling and loaded down, and I will refresh you." (Matt 11:28) A thought for The Anderson Family.

Dear Judy,
Going back to Our Savior's in 1959, your parents were such a special part of my life. Marj and I had such fun decorating in Canada, Florida, and the house on El Dorado. Your dad, along with Jim Hilty, was one of my Sunday school teachers. Give my best to your brothers and husband.

Most Sincerely,

Debby Duffy Maurer Young
