Gerald Radzai Obituary

MOUNT CARMEL — Gerald F. Radzai, 81, of 301 S. Peach St., died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by his family.

He was born at home in Mount Carmel, Feb. 14, 1932, a son of the late Frank J. and Mildred (Seginski) Radzai.

Gerald was a 1948 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and attended Bloomsburg University.

He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Yosemite (AD-19). He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

On May 16, 1959, in Holy Cross Church, Mount Carmel, he married the former Gloria Matukaitis. His passing ends a marital union of 53 years.

He was employed as a union carpenter.

Gerald took pride in remodeling his home and specialized in finishing carpentry. He also enjoyed all sports, being a top bowler for the Elks and an avid golfer, shuffleboard player and a fan of football. He also enjoyed the beach, gardening, cooking and making homemade wine.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, the VFW, American Legion and Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree), all of Mount Carmel.

In addition to his wife, Gloria, he is survived by two daughters, Gayle Hendrickson and her husband, Chris, of Danville, and Glenann Radzai, of Florida; a son, Gerald Radzai and his wife, Chrystal Meashey, of Mount Carmel; two grandchildren, Shea and Harper Hendrickson; a sister, Raydel Walston, of Florida; a sister-in-law, Shirley Radzai, of Mount Carmel, and nieces and nephews, as well as his two beloved pets, Max and Jax. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Belkoski, and a brother, Dr. Frank Radzai.

RADZAI — Gerald F. Radzai, 81, of 301 S. Peach St., of Mount Carmel. Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 47 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Francis Karwacki as celebrant. Visitation with the family will be held in the church from 10:30 a.m. Monday until the time of Mass. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20004, or to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 47 S. Gloria, GlenAnn, Gail, Jerry, I m SO SORRY to hear about Jerry St.! On behalf of my Mom (Ginger) and I, our hearts and prayers go out to all of you. You 'know' if my Mom was able, she would 'be so her for you' at this time when you need friends/family the most. God bless all of you, Jerry was a 'good man' and sorely missed. Though he ma not be here in body, he's still here heart and soul. RIP Jerry.
