Apex
Carolyn M. Austin, 86, of Apex, died peacefully on June 18, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, daughter of the late Franklin B. McArver and Margaret Knox McArver.
Carolyn was a strong Christian and a member of Apex United Methodist Church. She received her Bachelor's degree in Primary Education from Lenoir Rhyne College. She taught elementary school in the Hickory Public Schools. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading and playing BINGO on Monday evenings. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Edward B. Austin.
She is survived by her two daughters, Amy Lockman and husband Michael of Woodway, TX, Meg Camp and husband James of Center, TX., her son David Austin and his wife Beth of Cary, six grandchildren: Jay Camp and wife Taylor of Katy, TX., Amy Camp of Spring, TX., Megan Camp of Forney, TX., Ben Austin and wife Kathleen of Apex, Chris Austin and wife Monica of Durham, and Katie Austin of Cary; great grandson Jackson Edward Camp of Katy TX., and her brother Frank McArver and wife Linda of Austin, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 23, 2017 at Glenaire Retirement Community 4000 Glenaire Cir, Cary, NC 27511.
A graveside service will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Gaston Memorial Park 1200 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Glenaire Retirement Community or to the Apex United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are under the care of Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. William St. Apex, NC 27502.
