Harold Kasowitz Obituary

Kasowitz, Harold
Harold Kasowitz, (88) passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 18, 2018. He was born February 27, 1930, the youngest of eight children, to Samuel and Rose (Caplan) Kasowitz.
A 1948 graduate of Hillhouse High School, Harold played football and was named an All State Football Player by the New Haven Register. He attended New Haven State Teachers College where he played left tackle on the school's first football team. He also attended and played football for the University of Colorado in Boulder. Harold was owner and partner (with his late brother, Bob) of S. Kasowitz & Sons Scrap Metal Recycling Co. in West Haven, a family business started by his father. He also volunteered as a football coach for youth football leagues in New Haven. Following a brief retirement from the scrap business, he sold commercial and industrial real estate. Harold enjoyed spending time in Florida playing tennis and golf, and walking. He was a longtime and well-loved volunteer on the cardiac floor at Yale New Haven Hospital where he shared, touched and inspired patients and staff alike with his own cardiac-related experiences and his incredible sense of humor. Harold was an avid New York Giants and UCONN Women's Basketball fan. He looked forward to his regular Friday afternoon lunches with his long-time friends. Most of all, Harold was happiest spending time with his beloved wife of 66 years, Shirley Myers Kasowitz, his loving daughters, Debra Kasowitz Sachs (Joel), Barbara Kasowitz Allen (Fred) and Lori Kasowitz Kessing (Shaddy) and his six grandchildren, Ethan and Dylan Sachs, Eve (Jason) Greenberg, Emma (Zach) Brooks, and Eli and Noam Kessing. In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his brothers Isadore, William, Irving, Robert and Milton Kasowitz and his sisters, Minerva Edelman and Freda Rosen. Special love and thanks go to Harold's care provider and best pal, Nicholas Candido. Funeral Services at Robert E. Harold was a mensch in the true sense. He was strong, but gentle. Persistent, yet patient. Honest and humorous. He worked and lived to serve others and loved his family very much. His words put people at ease and often made them laugh. I believe he wanted to leave the world a little better than he found it. Overall, he was an optimistic, grateful, and happy man. Rest In Peace my dear father-in-law.
