Donna Dolven Obituary

Dolven, Donna Mae
Donna Mae Dolven, 82, of Worthington, passed away on October 28, 2018. She was born on January 31, 1936 in Albany, NY to Walter C. and Charlotte (DeForest) Mott. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Walter D. Mott. Maizy spent the majority of her life in Hamden, CT. She loved the outdoors and spent years as a caretaker of the school grounds at Hamden Hall. Gardening, tennis, golf, and a love of books consumed her spare time. A voracious reader, her intellectual curiosity led her to fascinating places in the U.S. as well as the Galápagos Islands and Greece. She was a proficient Bridge player, and never shied away from a game of Scrabble with family. Maizy, a gracious host and wonderful cook, spent years hosting faculty at various schools on the east coast. She was sometimes referred to, with humor and great respect, as "the General" for her willingness to take charge in arranging family holiday dinners, vacation planning or any other group undertaking. She was a graduate of St. Agnes School and Southern Connecticut State University. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution-Magna Carta Dame, and the New Haven Country Club. Donna will be greatly missed by her children Timothy Dolven, Peter (Marigene) Dolven, and Jessica (Steve) Ott; grandchildren Alex, Grant, and Graham Dolven, and Lindsay, Nolan and Jason Ott; brother Ken Mott; and numerous other family and friends. A friend of son Peter appropriately stated in remembrance "Mother Nature has died." No services will be held for Donna at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hamden Hall Country Day School, 1108 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, CT 06517. Arrangements have been entrusted to SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street. To share memories or condolences with the family please go to www.schoedinger.com.

Maizy and I shared lifetime memories. I knew her as a kind, smart and loving gal who traveled life's road in proximity to mine all along the way.
She was a wonderful friend, and she will be greatly missed.
Rest In Peace, dear heart.
