Dorothy Malerba Obituary

Malerba, Dorothy (DeGross)
Dorothy "Dottie" Malerba, 80, beloved wife of James F. Malerba of North Haven was called home to God on Thursday, September 27, 2018 in the presence of her loving family. Dottie was born in New Haven on December 6, 1937, a daughter of the late Ernest and Antonette Grasso DeGross, and resided in North Haven since 1972. She was a 1956 graduate of Wilbur Cross High School, where she consistently earned high honors. Following high school, she graduated from the x-ray lab technician program at the Hospital of St. Raphael, and later Southern Connecticut State University and Quinnipiac College, achieving excellence in the medical courses she took toward her goal of a career in that field. Dottie was certified as an x-ray and lab assistant and for many years served in those capacities for New Haven Cardiology and other groups. More important to her was her unceasing devotion to her family, son James E. (Lori) Malerba of Stamford and daughter Jennifer (Malerba) Kell of North Haven. When her children were students at St. Stephen School and later Hamden Hall, Dottie was always there for everything from academic events to the sports both her children played. She also volunteered extensively at both schools. She once said she enjoyed her children's education as much as they did. Dottie and her husband traveled to Cape Cod and Florida for many years, visiting Disney World twice, and enjoying the Cape with her children. Besides her husband and children, Dottie leaves her beloved grandchildren, Alexa and David Malerba Kell and Hannah Malerba, and her sister Gertrude (Frank) Walter of North Haven. Dottie's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Her funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association., CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd., #4b, Southington, CT 06489. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Dear Mr. Malerba, Jim and Jennifer,
Having seen Jim with fellow Debate Team members at our recent reunion, I was reminded of the Malerba family and your strong presence in the Hamden Hall of the mid 1990's. I remember Mrs. Malerba coming to parents' nights and the chats we'd have, and the clear pride she had in her two children and your school lives in our Upper School. May you be steadfast in your memories of all her thousands of daily contributions to your lives! In fond remembrance, and with all our condolences,
