Shirley Coe Obituary

COE, SHIRLEY Shirley Coe age 76, long time resident of Guilford CT, beloved wife of Richard Coe (deceased), passed away peacefully following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease on Thursday, June 14, 2012 in Arlington, Virginia. She was a loving mother of son Rich (Charlotte) Coe and daughter Katherine Knell and grandmother of Matt, Drew and Ryan Coe. She is survived by her sisters Marie Carpenter, Dorothy Sparrow, and her brother James Harnetiaux. A graduate of Western Illinois University, Shirley received her Master's in Early Education from Southern Connecticut State University and spent her career teaching kindergarten at Melissa Jones Elementary School in Guilford, Ct. She enjoyed art and music and participated in many vocal groups with her husband including the First Presbyterian Church of New Haven Choir and the Derby Senior Center Melodeers. Her warm smile, caring heart, and passion for teaching will be greatly missed. A Memorial service will be held Monday, June 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM at First Congregational Church, 122 Broad St, Guilford, CT.
