Faith McGann Obituary

McGann, Faith L.
Faith L. McGann, 99, passed away peacefully on December 30th at her home in Branford. Faith was born on August 4th 1921, a birthday she proudly shared with her twin sister Hope, her mother, and Barack Obama. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Charlotte Lazarevich of Guilford, owners of The Guilford Motor Company on the town green. Before moving to Branford in 2010, she resided in her beloved Guilford for 89 years.
In her youth, Faith was awarded the Golden Eaglet, the highest achievement in the Girl Scouts USA, and was the Vice President of Guilford High School Class of 1939. Faith was devoted to her grandchildren, never missing a graduation or art show, even traveling to Washington, DC when her grandson Jamie's artwork was displayed in the halls of Congress. An avid sports fan, Faith loved watching tennis (family joked that Novak Djokovic, a fellow Serbian, was her boyfriend), college basketball (with an affinity for the indomitable UConn Women's Huskies), baseball (a Yankee fan in a family of Red Sox fans), golf, and Formula One racing. Every night, she and a family member would watch Wheel of Fortune, Faith usually solving puzzles before the contestants. She completed the New York Times crossword puzzles in pen, never missing a square. A talented seamstress, Faith sewed wedding dresses for herself, her sisters and daughter, and countless blankets and costumes for her grandchildren. She happily sewed, knitted, and mended clothing for her family well into her 90s.
She leaves her children Simon A. McGann III (Hannah Chatillon), Hope Carloni (Philip),and James McGann II, as well as her sister Vida Holzinger. She leaves her grandchildren, Simon IV, and Madeleine McGann, her namesake Faith Charlotte (Devin Black), Hannah, and Jacob Carloni, and James McGann III. She was predeceased by her husband Simon A. McGann, Jr., her sisters Olga Treat, Hope Whitehead, Violet Skillin, and her brother George Lazarevich.
A gathering will take place this summer to celebrate her incredible life. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in her name to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
