I'm so sorry that I didn't have a chance to write something here earlier, but I did not find out about Mrs. Welden's death until some time had passed. My maiden name is Brosman and I grew up next door to Frances on Willow Street and she was a kind, wise, generous, and inspiring neighbor. She rigged up a cardboard viewer for me to see the solar eclipse with (around 1980, if memory serves), and she taught me a lot about butterflies and plants. She let me use her butterfly net to catch buckmoths, and I was so thrilled when I caught a female one because they were so rare. In later years, I visited her and Arthur on Willow Street with my husband and children. It was always a pleasure to sit in the living room (always neat as a pin) and chat with Frances and Arthur. She was a wonderful role model and such a fun and positive person. She would talk about Fred and Charles Woodson and their families and show me photos of her grandchildren, whom she was so proud of. She was a shining light in my childhood and I will always have fond memories of her. My heartfelt condolences to her family.

Please know that you have our sincere and deep sympathy as we remember your mother.
She was a remarkable lady, and my contacts with her - whether through Lusher School or Franklin, whether through our "Bookish Group" or a creative writing class we shared - they were always enjoyable. Just this week my husband, Bill, and I were looking through the pamphlet she put together on the butterflies of New Orleans. She pointed out the bad critters that could really hurt you, too!
She was very proud of her family, and that shone through in our conversations.
