Evanggelos Candaras Obituary

CANDARAS Evanggelos Speros, 58 years old, famously known as "L.A." by his friends and Evan by his family was called safely home to Paradise on Thursday, June 5, 2008, in Teaneck, New Jersey, after a heroic battle with cancer. Evan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 17, 1949, to Ethel and Speros Candaras and came to live in Teaneck, New Jersey as a one-year old. He attended Longfellow Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Junior High School and Teaneck High School. Evan will be remembered for his mechanical genius and his wonderful sense of humor. Evan loved nothing better than to be in his Oakland home working on his motorcycle and model airplanes or spending time with his son, neighbors, and friends. He is survived by his beloved son, Jason Candaras, of Fair Lawn, his loving sister, Senator Gale Candaras of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and her husband, Professor Arthur Wolf, Esq., his nephew, Evan A. Coppola, Esq. of South Burlington, Vermont, his former spouse and friend, Alice Candaras, and her family, all of Fair Lawn. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 from 9AM-11AM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck (201-836-0202). A Memorial Service in Evan's honor will begin at 11AM. Friends are encouraged to bring any pictures of Evan they wish to share. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evan's name to University Hospital School of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, 150 Bergen Avenue, Newark, NJ 07103-2406 or to Care Alternatives Hospice, 70 Jackson Dr., Cranford, NJ 07016 are appreciated by the family. Not sure what to say?

He was as much a member of our family in the 60's as was my brother Go-Go. My parents loved every moment he was on Queens Ct, especially when he was taking apart Moms washer and dryer to try to save her a few bucks. A part of my youth is diminished and I'll keep his image close to my heart and his memory close to my soul.

-Dad-

I never thought this day would come, I cant explain how much i love you and how much im going to miss you. I never relised how much i had, until it was gone. From the day i was born to the day i watched you pass away on your hospital bed, i loved you. Four months ago to this day, i remember bringing you to UMDNJ I new that from that day on it would never be the same.

Dad you were, not just the best father, but my best FRIEND.

L.A.,
What can I say, I will miss you and your kindness forever will i remember the way you looked out for me and my kids in my time of need. So many people were there today. I am sure you would have been very happy to see how loved you really are.
