I hope Ronnie's children know how many lives their father touched with his generosity. Without batting an eye, Ronnie always donated to our PTA fundraisers, supporting countless local schoolchildren. While Ronnie sustained many with his bagels, he gave truer sustenance with his kindness. That is a legacy that will last forever.

My sincere condolences on your loss. May the entire family find peace at this difficult time.
September 26, 2010
We were so sadened to hear of Ronnie's passing. It always amazed me how in the middle of the busiest weekend morning, Ronnie never failed to have a smile and hello for his customers. I will never forget his thoughtfulness when my dad past away. We weren't sure how many people to order for. Ronnie told me not to worry he would be there immediately with additional platters. More platters were needed and Ronnie personally delivered and set up the additional platters in a matter of minutes. That was 15 years ago and since then Ronnies Bagels has prepared platters for us for many happy events.
Our thoughts are with his family.

Awww!!...Ronnie what can I say! The person who lit up a room with his smile. The kind gentle soul who just wanted to be the best he could. The guy that I fell in love with 25 years ago and still remembered the fun times Horseback riding and Hamburgers at the Manus house...How I remember Ronnie wanting to be the best at what ever he did..nothing stopping him. I was Ronnie's first wife and love we had that innocent kind that you have when your young and your whole life is ahead of you. Ronnie, dreamed big always and in my heart he will always be the Good Looking Guy that made all the women in Bergen County melt...I was so lucky to have him in a time of his life where he was on top of the world...I will never forget and you will always have a special place in my heart. Rest my Ronnie in the Heavens above for there is Peace forever.

There were a lot of us kids that grew up on Beacon Street. We all started as neighbors, and then grew to be friends. From simple games like Hide-and go seek, and tag, to growing up to Friday night horseback riding. These are memories I will always cherish and never forget.
My love goes to all of the Manus Family.

My husband and I felt like we lost a close friend when we heard the news. Ronnie was someone that simply owned our favorite bagel store. He would make it a point to make eye contact with his customers, smile and talk. Kindness and sincerety radiated from him and we couldn't be sadder at the news. May God bless you and keep you Ronnie. You are already missed.

I remember the first time I met Ronnie. I had just given birth to my 3rd child, without help in the house, and was making a celebration brunch for my In-laws' anniversary, for a few of their friends. Ronnie offered to personally deliver my small order to my home to make it easier on me. That was the beginning of our family's relationship with Ronnie. We shared his joy at the Naming of his 1st baby girl Brooke. He glowed with pride. I last saw Ronnie recently in the Hillsdale store~he proudly showed me pictures of Brooke, Chandler and Drew. And, he never missed an opportunity to ask me about my children and husband. As I drove through Hillsdale today, I felt a true void, knowing I wouldn't see him, again.

It seems like everyone in Hillsdale knew Ronnie for his winning smile and his warm persona. He will be greatly missed. I remember him lighting up whenever he spoke about his children. He also raved about how wonderful Rosie was and how she was his right arm and how valuable she was to him and his store. Lets all continue to go to Ronnie's stores and support his legacy. Our hearts and prayers go out to his children and his family and may he rest in peace.

Ronnie was my youngest uncle, the cool uncle. 15 years ago Ronnie looked like Rambo and more recently his time away from the gym caused him to start looking more like Jerry Seinfeld. We would tease each other about working out and trade jabs. Ronnie taught me how to lift weights. Ronnie had a giant personality and was a ray of sunshine to all the people taking an escape from the gloomy daily grind to stop at Ronnies stores. An extended family of familiar faces that made a ritual of eating at Ronnie's every chance they get. I had the pleasure to work for him in his Hillsdale store when I was in school. The photo attached is from 2 years ago. I have a photo of us from last week I will try to post later. He watched me grow up and enriched my life always finding time to hang out with me despite being a single parent of 3 and successful business owner. Ronnie and I went fishing with his 3 children recently. It was Ronnie's and his kid's first time fishing. He stopped by a few days before the tragedy and all I saw was smiles and jokes. At Ronnie's funeral I saw beautiful woman that knew Ronnie from as far back as 30 years ago that still loved him and said there farewells. Ronny, Heidi says hello. There were friends from law enforcement, construction workers, doctors, lawyers, celebrities, body builders, countless friends and family, politicians, coworkers, all religions etc., More then gorgeous woman, Ronnie touched the hearts of people from all walks of life with his charm and gourmet food. Most recently Ronnie taught me that kindness, beauty and truth are not measures of wealth. Wealth comes and goes but the love for Ronnie and the memories of his selfless deeds will be here for generations to come. Ronny did not talk about it but he visited and donated to the children's cancer ward and most recently to Haiti. Ronnie was always there to give whatever he had and I am pained to have not been there to give him back as much as I received from Ronnie or embrace him last time I saw him. He stopped by so frequently I didn't pay much attention last time he visited and now I would give anything to have that moment back. I love you Ronnie and I swear will be there for your kids you loved more then yourself as you been there for me. Difficult for most to understand how you were such a great human being in a world full of evil. Ronnie, I have your desk and will use it and cherish it until your daughters are old enough to work and then I will pass the heirloom onto them. When your son is old enough for sports I will teach them everything you taught me. The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and you burned very, very brightly Ronnie.

Ronnie and my family spend so many milestones together! He made a gorgeous groomsman at my wedding and as our family grew so did his. We enjoyed watching him with his children, attending birthday parties in their beautiful home. He was a wonderful friend to my husband. Through good and bad times. Ronnie was always there! Even as our lives became busy and moved in different directions, we never felt distant from Ronnie. Running into him on the street or the gym ,,, it was like no time had passed. I know we will be talking about ronnie and keeping him alive in our hearts. I wish we had a chance to see him one more time and let him know how we felt about him. Ronnie. Rest in peace. And know your smile will not be forgotten. My heart goes out ton his children and family

Had the pleasure of knowing Ron since 1993, my first year in the coffee business. My first visit to the store resulted in HIM teaching ME about coffee. I was not put out by this however, he wasn't trying to impress me with his knowledge, he wanted to be sure I would be prepared for my NEXT customer, he wanted to make sure I would be successful. We all need to learn from him. He leaves a wonderful legacy. He was a good customer. He was a great friend. He was the BEST man. Be at peace brother.

We went there with our parents when we were young, with our friends after 'late nights', and now with our own children. Ronnie was an amazing man, an awesome boss and an even better “family” member. I grew up going to Ronnie’s before it was the Ronnie’s everyone knows today. Ronnie employed my brother and myself while we were in college and always welcomed me back to help on the weekends whenever I came home.
He will be greatly missed. But I promise every time I go to the shop in Hillsdale I will think of him and have a “Ronnie’s Favorite” the old way

I met Ronnie about 22 years ago when my daughter moved to Hillsdale and I discovered the fantastic "Ronnie's Bagels!" As I became a member of the Hillsdale community and a volunteer for various activities, Ronnie never said "no" whenever I approached him for a donation for something or to put a flyer for an activity in his store windows - or, whatever it was...His charming smile and personality was ever-present. Someone as special as he will always be missed. Deepest sympathy to his family and his employees and friends...He will forever watch over us all.

Ronnie Manus was truly a kind, thoughtful person. I am so sad to be unable to fly from Georgia to pay my respects to him. He was a modest person who would always make me smile even when times were hard. His children, Brooke, Chandler and Drew had a father that was a true role model for others. I send to them my deepest sympathy today as they attend his funeral. They will miss him forever and I hope that they will know that his love for them was so great that they should know is wishing he could be with them too. They should try to remember how much he loved them and eventhough he is in Heaven, he is watching and hoping they live good long lives so they will be able to tell him all their life's stories when they see him in heaven again.
This is written by their Aunt Doris Beardsley, Dr. Doris Beardsley who will always be available for their phone calls, day or night as I live in Atlanta, Georgia. Like their father, I am not able to see them everyday, but I think about them and wish I could hug them when they are sad or happy. Today is very hard because I also loved your father and I feel sorry that I will not see his smiling face. I hop that when I close my eyes tonight, I will have a happy dream where I see their dad happy and smiling.

I first met Ronnie when I was working around the block from his newly opened Hillsdale bagel store, some 17 years ago! I would go there on my lunch breaks. Ronnie was always there- so friendly and kind and ready to make conversation. Ronnie knew that, as a grad. student, I was seemingly always short on cash, so he would through in a bag of chips here and an extra ounce of cream cheese there. Years later, when Ronnie opened up his new place in my town, I once reminded him of his kindness and he was happy to see I could pay for my own chips.
Ronnie a very sweet man with a big heart. May his children find comfort in knowing that their dad will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by many many friends and customers. RIP Ronnie!

Ronnie made his customers at the Hillsdale store feel right at home with the warmth of his smile, and the free coffee refills that he would personally dispense. He will live in the hearts of my family, and all of us in the Pascack Valley who endured the long wait lines to buy "the best bagels in Bergen County."
