Tony, my friend and partner, it has taken me until now to sit down and try to put into words how much I miss you. You are truly a good man and a great friend. No matter what, you were always there and willing to do whatever it took to get the job done, even if it meant getting your patrol vehicle stuck on the curb! You always knew how to make me as well as your other Destin shift mates smile, whether you were walking into shift briefing in your Wolverine costume or telling us stories about what you did on your days off. You were always so enthused about coming to work and making sure the “bad guys got the ride.” It was a true pleasure to work with you and to have you for a zone partner. I am truly a better Deputy and person because of you.

Tony, you and your family paid the ultimate sacrifice, please know your OCSO family will continue to watch over your family and keep them from harm’s way. It is now your time to rest. But I must say I know you to well… I know that every call I go on you will be backing me up just like you have always done in the past.

To Jessica, Caitlin and Cassie: Your Husband and Father was a wonderful man. He was always telling stories about things you did or things he was looking forward to doing on his next day off. He loved spending time with each of you. He was always talking about his girls and always had a smile on his face while doing so.

Tony, you will be forever missed but never forgotten.

August 13, 2008

To Tony's Girls,
Know that your father was an admirable man. If ever you start to question what the words honor and integrity mean think only of your father. Your Dad's heart for all that he came in touch with showed each time he dealt with other people's problems. He cared not only for the victims but also the suspects and the pain they might have been going through during their problems.
Know that your father loved all three (Mom, Caitlin and Cassie) of you and he never stopped talking about what he had done or was going to do with you on his days off. Your Dad was a true friend and great partner to work with.
Travel the rest of your journey knowing that he will always be watching out over you and helping to guide and protect you. Your Dad is truly missed by all.

Jessica,
Although we have never met, we share a bond, one that can only be understood by the wives of law enforcement officers. Tony worked with my husband at FWBPD. They both were on the Swat Team together. You are living the nightmare that we all never want to be faced with. My heart is breaking for you and for your little girls. Please know that I am praying for strength, guidance, and peace for you. This kind of situation leaves a lot of unanswered questions. I hope that you will find peace in the fact that Tony made a difference in this world. He touched more lives than you will ever know. Although your heart is aching, please hold on to the fact that everyone who worked with him loved him. Their lives were changed because they new him. They will be better "officers" and better people because he took time to care. In this day and time it is hard to find someone who truely cares. Thank-you for the sacrifice you made on a daily basis by supporting his choice to be in law enforcement. You both have made the ultimate sacrifice and my prayers are with you.

I know that nothing I can say will take away your pain, but know that the community appreciated everything Deputy Forgione did. It is the sign of a remarkable man that would put his life on the line daily to protect and serve his community.

POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER
God bless my family when I am away, Leave the lights on I'll return from harms way, Grant me courage and strength to protect others each day,so they live in peace without worry, fear or dismay, Bless those who have fallen given their life for another. May their spirit live on from then and forever, Return me home to my family at the end of each shift, May I pass through the door before the morning's first light,
Shall I give my life for another before the dawn breaks today, God bless my family while I am away.

Tony,
You were a blessing to everyone you met. Your spirt was always lifting to myself and others. There will always be a void in this agency. I wish your family the best and if anything is ever needed we are always here. Tony, you will always be a true hero.

Saying "I am sorry for your loss" seems so inadequate, but the right words are so hard to find at times like this. I worked with Tony at Okaloosa Gas several years back. I don't say this often, but Tony was such a good man. He loved his wife and his family very much - you just knew it if you were around him even for a few minutes. I know the days ahead won't be easy, but know that Tony will always be watching over you. And when the future seems overwhelming, remember that it comes one moment at a time. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

When I first met Tony he was in diapers. I'm 36 y/o so that was a long time ago. I grew up with Tony and Joey. I lived across the street from their Grandparents and then when their Mother moved them to this area from Ft. Lauderdale they lived just 2 doors down from me. I think I spent more time at their house than my own. My Mom used to say that she had 2 girls (my sister and I) and 2 boys (Tony and Joey). She adored Tony very much and I trust that they're together, catching up on old times right now. I remember many nights I stayed up late with Tony but it wasn't with us running the streets it was at his house, playing cards with his stepdad, Rob. There is so much I can say about Tony - the child, Tony - the young boy, Tony - the man. I watched him grow up and go through all of those stages. He was my bestfriend for most of my life and then he married Jessica and started a family of his own and I moved away. Life happens but we always managed to stay in touch. He and my Mom were the only ones to write me when I went into the Army and that was strange and precious because neither of them were known to write very often. Fortunately I still have those letters. I still have all of the pictures. And I thank God that I still have all of my memoires. I watched his Mother and wife this week and their strength is more than inspiring. I pray for them now, that they continue to keep it together. I mentioned that I can say a lot about the different aspects of Tony but now all I can seem to talk about is the hero that he turned out to be. I moved back here a few months ago and I was grateful to be able to spend time with him again. I just saw him a few days ago and he was his normal happy self. We were joking and promising to get together soon. "Soon" never seems to come though and I hope to remember that when I'm shuffling my time around in the future. He had such a great sense of humor and I just pray that all who knew him remember that now and use that to help them make peace with Tony's passing. I just remember always laughing so much when we were together. It almost seemed impossible to stay upset once he started talking and goofing around. Those who were close to him knew that he would do a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g just to get a smile out of you. I believe that he's in a vastly better place and though I know that he would much rather be down here with us at least he can keep a better eye out for each one of us now. He always cared so deeply for his loved ones and now he can still do what he did best "protect and serve" but he can do it from a considerably better vantage point now. I love you Tony and I'm very happy to know that I'll see you again.

My heart and thoughts are with you and your family. Tony was/is a GREAT MAN!! I have met him many times in the past on good terms for advice and all.. It was a severe shock to myself and my family of the death of him, We all know now that Tony is up there with all the angels and with the Lord All Mighty. He will be watching over all that loves him dearly and that he will PROTECT ALL from up in Heaven... God Bless to all the Family.. My Prayers are with you and all..

In John 15:13, The Bible says, “No greater love hath a man, than to lay down his life for another.” Tony has proven his love for us all – his fellow man – by laying down his life to protect us all from evil. The “Thin Blue Line” between peace and anarchy has stretched a little thinner with this loss.

For Tony’s family - know that your husband, your father, your brother, and your son, is, and was, a true professional and a hero in all respects. Those of us who worked with him for so long on Delta Squad are hurting and grieving with you, because we too have lost a brother. Delta Squad can never be the same. The pain and sorrow we are feeling now will eventually fade with time – but he will always be in our hearts. He will always be remembered as OUR HERO!

For Tony – Rest in Peace Brother. Knowing you made me a better man and knowing we now have you for a Guardian Angel will make the day to day grind just a little easier. “Go rest high on that mountain brother, ‘cause your work here on earth is done.”

May your memory be honored forever.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

As the wife of a Deputy in Walton County I understand the stress you have gone through every day, watching your husband go off to work, praying for his safety out there on the street and asking for his safe return home at the end of his shift. Dear Jessica,

I know we have only had the chance to meet once, but I would like to take this opportunity to make sure you know that Tim & I are here for you & your girls. Tim is a teammate of Tony's, & it's horrible that it takes a tragedy like this to bring us all together as the family we are.

But I sincerely want you to know please do not ever hesitate to ask me, Tim, or any of your extended family for anything at all. We are here for you, not just now, but forever. We will make sure that if you ever need a thing, that you are not alone.

I only recently met Tony at the SRT Christmas party this past January, which is also when I met you. But your husband had such a spark, he made an impact on every single person he met.

I will forever be changed because of your wonderful husband. My family will forever be changed because of the loss we are all mourning over Caitlin & Cassie's father.

This pain will never go away, & Tim & I will do our best to make sure you never want for company, or a shoulder to cry on.

Stay strong Jessica. You are going to make it through this, with God's grace.

With love, honor, & the utmost respect,
Tim, Katie, Julia, Ansleigh, & Toby Siren

I go to the same church you did, my youngest son played with Caitlin. He is also in Royal Rangers in which you were a commander. I should have told you long ago that I appreciated what you did for those boys. I've passed you in the halls at church and smiled briefly at you, I should have taken the time to know you a little bit more, but now I,ve missed the chance. I also thank you for the sacrifice you made. I will pray for Jessica, Caitlin and Cassie . I'm so happy for you being with your loving savior. in Christs' love, Colleen M

Dear Forgione Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. As a Ft. Walton Beach native and now a police officer in Atlanta, this saddens me deeply. It's always tough to lose a law enforcement brother, but I know that doesn't compare to a spouse and a father. He was a true hero and a brave man to face the things that he did every day when he put on that uniform and I'm sure that all that he has done has made this place a little safer for his children and wife to live in. Thank God for people like him! All of you will be in my family's prayers.

Forgione Family,
Though I did not know Tony on a personal basis, we did share somthing in common. Like every other member of this law enforcement family we shared a passion. A passion to go out everyday, not knowing if we will come home, and attempt to help as many people as possible. Eventhough Tony is not here anymore, I can assure you that a man with his strength, courage, and heart will be standing at the golden gates when you arrive. People are put on this earth for a reason and it takes a very special person to put this badge on. Tony did it every day and knew what he was risking in hopes he could make other peoples lives better. Just know that Tony did not die without reason, he died doing what he loved and doing what god intended him to do. You have my sympathy and as a community we shall make it through this. Stay strong and know that you are in our prayers.

Tony, I am still unable to come to terms with this and I know I never will. I miss you my dear friend. I could always count on you. I love you. Until we meet again...

Jessica, Joey, and the rest of the family, I am so sorry that you are going through this. If there is ever anything myself, or any of us can do for you all, please do not hesitate. Tony will be missed a great deal.

Caitlin and Cassie, be proud of your Daddy for he is a great loving man. I know he loves you all so much; he would always speak of the two of you. Remember, he is not gone for he will always be with all of you.

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
