Mark and I were student driver´s together at Munster High School in 1971 with Mr. Haas as our instructor. We had a lot of laughs together. However, our paths diverged afterwards, but I always thought highly of Mark. I regret that we lost touch.

I did not know Mark Kiesling well but I have always admired his work. He was a courageous man who wrote tirelessly of the wrongs he saw around him.
I did have the opportunity to meet Mark, accidentally, late one evening at Strak & Van Tils. I was wheeling my cart around the canned goods aisle and crashed headlong into his cart. He was startled and I apologized. I recognized him immediately and shouted “Mark!” He looked around nervously. I laughed and assured him I wasn't a politician from East Chicago and he needn't worry about not wearing his bullet-proof vest. He laughed and I took the moment to thank him for his dedication to his work and his spare, insightful writing style. He smiled, sheepishly, and said thanks.
Then our carts were off in opposite directions. My deepest sympathies to all of his family and friends.
I will miss you Mark.

I was shocked and saddened greatly to hear of Mark's sudden passing. Mark and his former wife, Donna had been good friends of my late husband, Jerry and I and had helped us greatly when Jerry was terminally ill. I will always remember Mark's great sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Over the years, our paths had crossed again as his son, Nicholas played baseball with my son. Mark was a wonderful husband, father, coach, and writer. He will be surely missed for his words of wisdom and wit. My deepest sympathies to the entire Kiesling family.

Mark and I had a ridiculous amount of fun together when we were competitors chasing crime stories in South Cook County in the very early 80s. We would go to lunch during long murder trials and laugh ourselves silly to relieve the trauma of the testimony. He was a good guy, and I'm so sorry to hear of his death so very young.

I was shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Mark. It had been a while since we crossed paths. But I can't help but remember the great times we had when David and my son Jesse played together in the Woodmar little league. He always seemed to have a halarious comment regardless of the situation on and off the field. It seemed like we still kept in touch by me reading his colums. I always thought that I would run into him again. I wish I would have. Gonna miss you buddy. Rest in Peace. My condolences to Donna, David, Nick & Abby.

Mark was always hopeful. I met him at the ids when we were both students. I worked with him again in Hammond in the '80s. He was smart and sincere and always showed up. It is a loss to his friends, family and to the business.
