Dorothy M. Brohlmann Valparaiso Dorothy M. Bohlmann, age 72, died peacefully Monday evening, August 2, 2004, at her home in Valparaiso, IN after a 14 month illness. Dorothy was born July 16,1932, the seventh child of Herman and Miriam (Lisse) Peters, in their farm home at Onarga, IL. After graduating from Onarga High School, she attended St.John's College in Winfield KS, earning a license to teach elementary school in 1952. She began teaching professionally at St.Paul's Lutheran School in Kankakee, IL. On June 19,1954, she married Melvin Bohlmann in St. John's Lutheran Church near Onarga, IL. They made their home in Valparaiso,IN, raised their children and retired here.A special memory was their 35th wedding anniversary celebration with her first cousins at Verden in Germany. June 2004, they joyfully celebrated 50 years of marriage. Dorothy played the pipe organ for church services while in Kankakee, IL and later, gave piano lessons in her home. She taught Sunday School at Immanuel Church for many years,and volunteered work in the school library and Girl Scouts. After her children went to college, Dorothy worked 25 years in pre-school and child-care centers using music daily in her teaching. She completed dozens of hand-stitched artworks while traveling, and with her husband patronized local music and theater performances.She loved her family and the service she gave to others. Her enjoyment of children,her home and flower gardens were lifetime pleasures. From 1954 onward, she was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Survivors include husband,Melvin of Valparaiso,son, Gregory (Pamela) of Redwood City, CA, daughters, Deborah (Michael Kunz) Bohlmann of Maplewood, MO, Cynthia (Keith Anderson) Bohlmann of Valparaiso,IN, Denise (Scott) Simpson of Mason, OH, eight grandchildren, Adam, John, Miriam in MO, Anna, Jacob, Morgan in Valparaiso, Samuel and Jordan in OH, Brothers, Edward and Warren (Fran) Peters in Watseka, IL and Richard (Dorothy) Peters in Crescent City, IL; sisters, Christine Schleef in Apache Junction, AZ, Elizabeth Korbitz in LaJunta, CO, Ruth Peck in Sanford, MI, Miriam (Larry) Larkin in Virginia Beach, VA; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and special friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Arthur and infant John Peters,three brothers-in-law and a sister in-law. Memorial visitation will be 4 to 8 pm, Friday, August 6 and 1:30 - 2:30 pm Saturday, August 7 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, IN. Memorial services will be in the church on Saturday 2:30 pm with Pastor Don Williams officiating. Interment will be in the church's Memorial Garden. Arrangements are by Moeller Funeral Home.
